Which yarn for which saree?

Georgette and crepe need high-twist crape yarn; georgette uses it in warp and weft, usually alternating S and Z twist. Chiffon is lighter, with finer twisted yarn. Satin uses smooth, bright flat filament (FDY) so the floats shine. Everyday dress material is mostly woven with DTY.

Georgette

A grainy, springy fabric from high-twist crape in both warp and weft, alternating S and Z twist so the cloth stays balanced. Common counts are 50/48 and 75/72 semi-dull crape.

Crepe

Crepe usually puts the crape yarn in the weft, sometimes with a flat filament warp. The result is a matt, pebbled surface with good drape.

Chiffon

Lighter and more open than georgette, woven from finer deniers with twist. The finer the denier, the sheerer the fabric.

Satin

The shine of satin comes from long floats of smooth yarn, so it uses flat filament, often bright or super bright FDY, in the warp.
